Reiki is an ancient Japanese healing technique. It is based on the idea that there is life energy in our bodies that has an optimum natural balance. We get sick when our life energy is low, or when it is out of balance. Reiki restores the natural balance of the body, providing deep relaxation and bringing a sense of peace and wellbeing. Reiki treats the entire person, promoting healing on the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual levels. Reiki is hands-on healing that usually involves various hand placements on the client's body, though the benefits of Reiki can also be received through hand placements above the body (without direct touch). The client remains fully clothed as the Reiki energy will travel through clothing, casts, braces, etc. Reiki may be received either lying down or sitting in a chair. At times, the practitioner or client may speak as issues and images arise; at other times, the session is silent.
